I’m in the group with Grace, Stella and Denny and our group’s scene is about how Romeo is actually a psychopath and Juliet is just an imagined person. For this scene, I will be playing Romeo. At first when Romeo tells Lawrence that he is falling in love with a woman called Juliet, his emotion should be happy and satisfied. In order to portray this emotion, I should talk to Lawrence with smile on my face to show the joy and my voice should be soft and I should put my right hand on my heart which portrays a typical man-looking when they are in love. When I sees that Tybalt and Mercutio are fighting, my emotions should immediately change from joyful to angry. This change of emotion can be showed by using correct body language. For instance, I can hold my hands hard as if my fists are ready to fight and my body gets low as if I’m in a fighting position. These strategies are very effective because it can easily tell audience what kind of feelings you have in a simple way. When both Lawrence and Mercutio tell me that Juliet is a person who died ages ago, my face should show confusion. This can be showed by putting my hands on my head and grabbing my hair as if my brain is functioning quickly.
In this performance, the most important thing, in my opinion, is the control of my emotion and how I can switch into a different emotion immediately, but at the meantime not overact it, since I need to make the play realistic. Also it is extremely important to have a good chemistry with other actors on stage, in order to show the correct relationships with each one of them.
