Adaptation

After almost two weeks of hard work,  we eventually finished our adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, which presents a different perspective of the story that Romeo is a psychopath. Our group has four members, they are Stella, Grace, Denny and me. My character is Romeo. Throughout the whole performance, what I did well would probably be my facial expression. For instance, when Lawrence tells me that Juliet does not even exist and my gun is actually a toy, my facial expression should change from angry to confused and helpless. What I did was that I really took my time, moved eye balls left and right like my brain is functioning really fast, then put my hands on my head and grab my hair as if it is driving me crazy. The slow change of facial expression can show the different emotion accurately, even though it was hard to control my facial expression but we eventually conquered it. There were a few struggles we had during the filming part four instance we were struggling of where to put t...

The Caucasian Chalk Circle

The Caucasian Chalk Circle  On November 11, I watched Cheshire Academy Fall Production ‘The Caucasian Chalk Circle’ at Black box. The play is directed by Ms.Guarino, and actors and actresses include Sam Weed, Peter Deng, Amalia Gutierrez, Aaron Luo, David Mathisson, Linda Li, Jason Lin, Erin King, Zoe Genden, Helen Zheng and Krystal Charter. In this review I will be focusing on the staging, acting and sone of my personal opinions of this great performance. Firstly, the story a peasant girl who rescues a baby and becomes a better mother than its wealthy natural parents. Eventually the judge decides to give the baby to Grusha (Sam Weed). The play involves in multiple themes, such as love, justice, status and conflict.  A good play always has a great start, so does this one. The actors and actresses come in and all sit in front of the audience, while the slow music is playing which creates a smooth atmosphere. The light is dim at the start, which makes the audience h...

Blog 8

I’m in the group with Grace, Stella and Denny and our group’s scene is about how Romeo is actually a psychopath and Juliet is just an imagined person. For this scene, I will be playing Romeo. At first when Romeo tells Lawrence that he is falling in love with a woman called Juliet, his emotion should be happy and satisfied. In order to portray this emotion, I should talk to Lawrence with smile on my face to show the joy and my voice should be soft and I should put my right hand on my heart which portrays a typical man-looking when they are in love. When I sees that Tybalt and Mercutio are fighting, my emotions should immediately change from joyful to angry. This change of emotion can be showed by using correct body language. For instance, I can hold my hands hard as if my fists are ready to fight and my body gets low as if I’m in a fighting position. These strategies are very effective because it can easily tell audience what kind of feelings you have in a simple way. When both Lawrenc...

Proposal

The scene I choose for the adaptation is from Act 3 scene 5 when Lord Capulet enters to see Juliet and Lady Capulet and how their conversation is going about marriage with Paris, then Lord Capulet realizes that Juliet does not want to marry Paris, so he slaps her and threat her. The story is about two companies Coca Cola and Pepsi are both trying to get the recipe for a new flavor of coke from a chemical company. The boss of Coca Cola (Lord Coca Cola) wants his daughter to marry the son of the chemical company in order to get the recipe. However what the boss of Coca Cola does not know is that his daughter is already in love with the son of the boss of Pepsi. My design is the scene when the boss of Coca Cola argues with his daughter about marriage, and how he threats her to do so.  In total, there are three characters in the scene, they are the boss, daughter and boss’s wife. The scene starts with a monologue by the daughter, which is about how she is thinking of the son o...

Romeo and Juliet review

Romeo and Juliet review  On October I watched the modern version of ‘Romeo and Juliet’, directed by Baz Luhrmann, in school. The play basically tells the story that both two families’ so and daughter Romeo and Juliet meet in a ball and immediately in love with each other, they decide to marry but due to the conflict between two families p, they eventually suicide and the death of the couple ends the conflict.  The Baz Luhrmann version of Romeo and Juliet is filmed around a beach in California, the sunshine and the warm weather makes the city really attractive. The setting in the movie is unique, the two family buildings are facing to each other and between the two buildings, there is a huge statue of god. This set if staging is really effective because it shows the theme of fate and destiny. Also the staging shows the high power the two families have in the city of Verona, the buildings are built right in the center of Verona. Not like the original version reading the...
