Adaptation
After almost two weeks of hard work, we eventually finished our adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, which presents a different perspective of the story that Romeo is a psychopath. Our group has four members, they are Stella, Grace, Denny and me. My character is Romeo. Throughout the whole performance, what I did well would probably be my facial expression. For instance, when Lawrence tells me that Juliet does not even exist and my gun is actually a toy, my facial expression should change from angry to confused and helpless. What I did was that I really took my time, moved eye balls left and right like my brain is functioning really fast, then put my hands on my head and grab my hair as if it is driving me crazy. The slow change of facial expression can show the different emotion accurately, even though it was hard to control my facial expression but we eventually conquered it. There were a few struggles we had during the filming part four instance we were struggling of where to put the camera in order to have the best light, but at the meantime make sure it is the best angle. Also, we put in a lot of effort of deciding what costumes should we wear, we eventually decide that Lawrence and Tybalt should wear white clothes in order to shows their actual identities, which is doctors. Mercutio should wear a skirt with pink hair, since he is kind of crazy. In this film, the most successful part would be our communications between each other. We worked really well and we all came up with a lot of good ideas. The great communication made our piece really good.
It has been around three months since I came to Cheshire Academy and have Lit and Performance this course, and I feel like I learned so much, especially my ability to create drama and how to use acting to portray the drama, my body language improved the most, because I am capable to move around on the stage freely and use body language to show my inner thoughts and emotions. In conclusion, our adaptation of Romeo and Juliet really help me to have a better understanding of Romeo and Juliet, especially the love between Romeo and Juliet.
