1. I'm nobody! Who are you?: There are two stanzas, a relatively short poem. There are four lines in each stanza. Because of her anti-social personality, this poem reflects her own feelings of being unnoticed. The rhyme scheme is AABC DEFE. There is a contrast between Somebody and Nobody. The important words are capitalized. 2. Hope is the thing with feather There are three stanzas four lines for each stanza The simile used to describe hope as a bird all positive about hope. 3. Tell all the truth but tell it slant  There is only one stanza There are eight lines in this stanza. She criticizes how people are not willing to tell the actual truth Slant means that people need to indirectly face the truth. 4. A bird, came down a walk Five stanzas four lines in each stanza It describes how the poet sees a bird. Throughout the poem, the poet describes the bird's movement and details. All positive and vivid.

She falls and sees Daniel ignoring her, then she is being stepped on and dies.  - the performance should focus on the scene where Desiree is suffering at the hotel when she first sees Mathilde ignores her and then Daniel ignores her. The stage should be in a black box theater where Desiree lays in the middle of the stage and Daniel on the left, Mathilde on the right. - Lighting should be white, spot lights on the three characters. 1. I want to focus on the contrast between the two totally different living environment. The peasant side will be mainly trees, and I’ll lieave enough space in front of the trees for performers. The front stage is full of dirt which shows the poverty peasants have. On the other side of the stage is the rich people side where the road is well built, and there is a hotel behind the performers which is where everything happens. The hotel is painted gold which shows the high social status. Overall. There will be some dialogues between Desiree and the gods. The colors of lighting will be a main effect which white stands for innocence and red stands for blood. When one side of the stage is performing, the other side should be lights off.

Question 3 Despair    As a novel that is strongly related to religion and multiple gods, the book ‘My Love, My Love, or the Peasant Girl’ does a great job of setting the gods as high status and powerful characters, but at the same time, interactive with normal people in the play. Desiree, as the main character of this book, has both respect and fear to the gods; The most effective part that shows both of these feeling of her is when Papa Ge shows up next to the window and Desiree prays to Agwe and is willing to give Agwe her soul in order to exchange her love Daniel’s life.      In the novel, page 46 to 47 when Papa Ge first comes into the story, there is a scary description of Papa Ge, who is the god of death. The description says ‘a shadow appeared against the outside darkness, a shadow that became thicker, larger, then formed itself into a man, a man in black… his clothes as dark as the night behind him, his top hat outlined against the fray, stormy sky....

After hearing that Daniel is now preferring Andrea, Desiree is going through an emotional turmoil; she is not eating and taking care of herself. Grandma Mathilde informs her that Daniel is going to marry Andrea soon, which breaks her heart one more time. There is one scene that she loses her red comb that is given by God, which foreshadows what will happen later in the book. The reality hits her so hard that she even has a horrible dream about how she saves Daniel's life but Daniel is not buying it, which, said by the gods, is a betrayal that is also foreshadowing what will happen later in the story. The gods tell her to use the knife to kill Daniel. When Desiree actually wakes up she grabs the knife and goes to Daniel's room while he is still sleeping; but she cannot do this to her love, so she leaves the room. However, Lucifus sees this and misunderstands, so she kicks Desiree out of the hotel. During the wedding, there are people everywhere, and Desiree decides to show up...

When Desiree and Daniel are still sleeping, Daniel's grandmother Mathilde comes in and sees them and asks Desiree to leave the place. However, after Daniel's persuasion of how Desiree can cure his mental breakdown, Mathilde decides to let her stay. Then, Daniel's father comes in and also agrees to let Desiree stay in order to help his son. After days of curing and taking care of him, Daniel is getting better and Desiree knows that she will have to leave. Therefore, because Daniel is in love with Desiree, he decides to make her a grand lady, which is supposed to be Andrea G's position; and this brings jealousy of others. One night, Desiree sees a man, Lucifus. When Daniel's father is back, there is a grand ball for him. Desiree appears with a beautiful white dress that impresses everyone.  As a book that strongly relates to religion background, My love my love has described the appearances of gods multiple times. In chapter 8 when Desiree is sleeping, she dreams of four gods, Agwe, Asaka, Papa Ge, and Erzulie. In this blog post, I will focus on the description of each god and how I will perform and design each of them as a character on stage.  Agwe: In the book he is described as ‘tall, beautiful, his lofty head of the richest blue-green seaweed decorated in gold-strutted back and forth as he had in the houngfor, his wicked eyes a blazing blue.’ As the description says, he is described as an arrogant god who wants to take over everything. In contrast to Desiree, who looks poor, Agwe looks well decorated with beautiful outfit, which shows his god status. On stage, I would make his costume the same as the description in order to show his arrogance with gold-yellow light on him in order to show the rich status.  Asaka: She is described as ‘sat sulkin...

After getting dressed, Desiree finally gets in the gate. Although wearing shoes is uncomfortable, she knows that this is the only way to get close to Daniel. Desiree sees Daniel with his father in a car driving to the hotel, so she decides to talk to Daniel. However, Daniel only speaks French to her, so she does not understand. Desiree decides to hide in the garden in the hotel; she hopes her village can have a beautiful like this. Then, she becomes an artisan. After her teacher and the guard leave at night, Desiree will come out, play and bath in the pool. Eventually, Daniel comes to Desiree and tells her how he is suffering right now. Desiree tells him that he does not need to worry and she will take care of him.

On Desiree's journey of finding Daniel, Desiree learns how to exercise patience.  Throughout the journey, she dreams of the Gods she is afraid of; she experiences laughter of vendors; she goes to a strange town and is laughed at by a woman; she also meets a woman who she thinks is sent by God, and the woman gives her food and tells her that she is closed to the destination. On her way to see Daniel, Desiree meets a homeless girl who reminds her of herself. Therefore, Desiree teaches the homeless girl how to exercise patience to vendors and how to make a wishing cage. Eventually, she tells the homeless girl to the road to her old village so that this girl can replace her. Eventually, Desiree arrives at the city. She is shocked by the advanced city and all her surroundings. When she comes to a gate, the guard is rude to her and thinks that she does not belong here since she does not even have a pair of shoe on her. After feeling defeated and depressed, Desiree decides to sell som...

While everyone else is cleaning up the mess and start to plant new vegetations after the storm, Desiree's mind is way off the peasant's place; she realizes that she has fallen in love with Daniel, which makes her make up her mind to go to the wealthy place and find Daniel. After asking T.J about the journey and being told that it will be a long and tough ride, Desiree goes to see M. Bienconnu, who tells her that it is impossible to get love from Daniel that i described as history has cast out fate in stone. However, she still decides to go. Mama Euralie hears the news and decides to go with her and hold her hand. Mama Euralie brings Desiree with her to ask gods about whether she should go or not. Desiree also sees her real parents and there is a happy scene. They first see Goddess Erzulie who supports the love.Then God Agwe comes and tells Mama Euralie that she ruins his plan, which is to let Desiree suffer. As a special character in the book, it is important to show the correct identity of Desirre, which can be achieved by the suitable costumes. Similar to any other peasants, Desiree is hard working. Therefore, she should be wearing a farmer’s cloth. Her costume should not contain any fancy colors since the peasant life should be simple, which also shows her characteristic of simplicity. However, unlike any other peasants, she has curiousity and hope of having a better life and at the same time being innocents, therefore, it is important to show the contrast by making her costume not as dirty as other peasants’ To make connections with other characters such as Mama Euralie, the rich people, the idea of God, Desiree’s costume can make a huge effect of it. Continue from the previous chapter, Desiree eventually finds a young man who is injured from the accident, whose name is Daniel. She sees a broken car, which at that time she had no idea what it is. To comfort Daniel, Desiree sings a song and then other peasants from the village appear. They bring Daniel back to their place and look after him. At the meantime, Desiree thinks that all this is fate, it is the will of God that brought this man to their place. Apparently, Daniel is from the wealthy part, but he does not tell them what his specific identity is. Peasants send M.J and M.B to the city to find someone. After a few days, M.J and M.B come back.
