reflection of presentations

What is drama? It is a way of expressing your lifestyle and experience on stage. Throughout the all three classes of listening, learning and taking notes, I was impressed by how the art of drama can be this detailed and interesting. All these theorists have their own thoughts of how to create drama and how to improve your understanding and acting skills. In this essay, I will be focusing on the techniques I learned from presentations and how I can use them on my preparation. From most of the theorists I learned about, I found out that all these ideas are similar or related to one person’s idea, which is Konstantinos Stanislavsky, one if the most famous directors in the drama history. Therefore, I will start with his techniques. Stanislavsky’s central idea of drama is to relate drama to real life, which is also called naturalism. In order to make the performance more realistic and logical, he created the ‘Magic if’ which is to let the actor asks himself questions that are related t...

ForthWall review

The ForthWall Performance was one of the most creative pieces of drama I have ever watched. Throughout the performance, since it was a musical performance, when the actors/actress were performing, they could not talk, their emotions were all showed by their body language, gesture and facial expression, which is really challenging. Secondly, instead of them deciding the order of the 22 shows, they let the audience choose. This is very effective because it can keep the audience engaged (communication between actors/actresses and audience is extremely important). From what I saw, this performance requires very good chemistry between actors/actresses, since there weren’t lots of verbal communication between them. Overall, I was truly impressed by their Performance and I hope there will be an opportunity for us students to create this type of drama.

Our group (Stella, David and I) is doing a combination of two scenes, which illustrates the bad relationships between Amanda and her children. The first scene we are going to do is the scene when Amanda tells Laura that she finds out Laura has not been going to school for a long time and how disappointed she is. The second scene is the arguing between Tom(me) and Amanda. What these two scene really interest me is that both scenes not only illustrates the bad relationship between Amanda and her children, but also represent Tom and Laura’s hope to get away from their poor situation and the harsh reality. For example, Laura always goes to the park and museum, Tom always goes to the movie. In the performance, I will be playing Tom. This is a really challenging character, since I need to be angry all the time and at the same time when I break the glass menageries I need to be gentle to Laura. The quick transition of emotions really challenges my acting skill. In order to accomplish this pe...
