Act2 notes
Romeo and Juliet and both fall in love deeply. Romeo comes to balcony and meets Juliet. They promised each other that they will get married, and Juliet tells Romeo that she will send someone to discuss about the marriage. The person who Juliet sends is nurse, since she is her only trustful person. They decide to get married very soon. Then Romeo comes to see his friend but also tutor Friar Lawrence, and asks him to minted their marriage. Friar Lawrence at first rejects to do this but then he thinks that this might be a turning point, which can end the ancient grudge, so he agrees. Then right the next day they marry.
Balcony as one of the most important scene in the whole story, uses a lot of different techniques.
Religious imagery ‘O, speak again bright angel.’
‘Juliet is the sun.’
Juliet’s famous quote ‘Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo.’
Also there are iambic pentameter used in this scene:
‘but soft, what light through yonder window breaks.’
‘It is the east, Juliet is the sun.’ Poetic language really shows Romeo’s love toward Juliet.
Main characters in act2:
Mercutio: he is jealous how he is not the first one Romeo talks to about Juliet.
Friar Lawrence: he is a wise person who expects peace. He hopes to end the conflict between two families.
Romeo: In love with Juliet
Juliet: in love with Romeo
Nurse: a nice old lady who cares about Juliet. She plays a huge role in this act because she connects the marriage between Romeo and Juliet.
