I think theater can be viewed as a platform for people to express their thoughts on an event or a phenomenon. For example, the play 'the glass menagerie' is used by Tennessee William to express how harsh the poor people's life was during that time. Also, for actors and actress, a theater can be a way for them to express themselves and relax, acting on stage can be a relief for them. For instance, when I was on the stage, I feel free, because I can express my true emotion. There could be a lot of purposes for a person to do or watch theater. Acting can be a hobby to a lot of people since it is fun and challenging. When I first started to participate in theater, my purpose was to try to be more confident and relaxed in front of people, since I used to have a confidence issue when facing lots of people. For the purpose of watching a theater, it can be seen as a learning purpose. A play can help the audience to understand the history better, a good example of it would be the play 'Les Miserables', after watching it I had a better understanding of the French revolution. In my opinion, the most important aspect of theater for performers to learn and think would be the understanding of the character. In order to improve the play, it is very significant to know what the character is truly thinking and understand how they would react if something happened. In addition, it is also important for performers to know how can they understand the characters better, such as using the strategy of hot seating. Throughout my two years of participating in theater, I think doing theater is challenging, because it is a long process of designing the play and stage, and also need to think how the audience will feel when they are watching my play. However, it is also a fun thing to do, since I get to work with my classmates and doing theater has always been a fun thing for me.
