In class writing 9/10

For the verbatim theater project we did last week, my group ( Cassidy, Denny, Stella, and me ) decided to choose Cassidy to act me. She talked about how I feel about the two dorms I have lived in - VDP and Markins, and also relationship with my roommate, including my experience livening there. The purpose of people doing this kind of theater is that they want to explore a character more and also improve their acting skills, such as gestures, body movement, and voice. In addition, Verbatim is also a fun activity for performers to develop their mocking ability, which can bring their performance to another level.

Verbatim theater accomplishes performers’ goal that is to view things with more details. For my group’s project, we spent a lot of time on discussing the topics and specific stories. Eventually, we decided to let Cassidy perform since she knows me well and the way I talk to people. In order to create a script, we did several interview ( Lesley asking me questions about how living in two different dorms feels like ). Because Cassidy is a good friend of mine and we spent a lot of time discussing about the performance, I did not find the process of creating the piece challenging. However, there was a small accident during the process, which is Stella’s injury, causing us to switch the performer. But nothing is undoable, we maximize the efficiency of our limited time and created a master piece.

Personally, I enjoyed the process a lot, since it is fun to see how others see me from a different perspectives. Cassidy did a great job of doing me gesture and the way I sit. Also she did good on copying my way of speech, which is to rephrase what I say. To sum up, it was such a great experience and I’m sure I will do more verbatim theater plays in the future.
