Night woman analysis

Who I am?
The character I chose is the night woman. She is 25 years old with one child, whose father left the family after the child was born. Her job is a prostitute, instead of working during the daytime, being a prostitute makes more money. She has a son who is around eight years old, and he is the only support for her. She tries not to let her son know her job so that she keeps telling him the stories of the angel and his father comes back only at night. However, she knows that there will be one day her son realizes the truth, and she is afraid of this day coming. 

What time is it? 
Though the time is not given clearly, it can be reasonably predicted that it is around the Haitian republic first formed.

Where am I?
the character is in Haiti Ville Rose, which is a place full of poverty and starvation. She has a single room with her child, and she also has a neighbour who seems to have problem of poverty too.

What surrounds me?
The main setting is the dim room she lives in, which is separated into two parts, one is full of happiness, which symbolises the naiveness of her child, the other half represents the dark and harsh reality in the society. She has also been to the main road, which is described in a depressing tone that presents her depression. 

What is the given circumstances? 
Due to the poverty and the lack of the role of father and husband, the night woman’s life is extremely difficult, which is the reason of her being a prostitute. She is in a struggle because she knows the fact that one day her child will know her job and feel either ashamed or upset. However, she does not plan to stop her job since it makes more money, which can support her child to finish education so that he will have a better life. She also feels lonely since during the day time she has nothing to do and nobody with her. The harsh reality is the cause of her loneliness and her current life. However, she knows that at least she still has her son, who is naive and believes in the tale of angel. 

What is my relationship?
Her strongest bond would be the one between her and her son. He is her only support. Her son’s happiness is the only warm thing she feels in this cold world. She has no connection with her husband who abandoned them a long time ago. She also ha relationships with her clients, who are a doctor and a musician. She does not really care about their lives, but due to the need of her profession, she needs to treat them well. 

what do I want?
She want her son to be good. She wants him a have a good education so that he can have a better job and future. She also wants her child to keep his immature personality so he will never know what her job is like. To sum up, her son’s happiness is the only thing she wants. 

What is in my way?
The situation of poverty is the main worry that will significantly affect her life. Also, as her son is growing up, he will know the harsh truth that his mother is a prostitute. 

What do I do to get what I want?

The only thing she can do is to keep working and save money, so that she can stop being a prostitute as soon as possible. She needs to try her best to keep living, unlike her husband who left them.

Continue from the previous chapter, Desiree eventually finds a young man who is injured from the accident, whose name is Daniel. She sees a broken car, which at that time she had no idea what it is. To comfort Daniel, Desiree sings a song and then other peasants from the village appear. They bring Daniel back to their place and look after him. At the meantime, Desiree thinks that all this is fate, it is the will of God that brought this man to their place.
