How to best perform

I am the narrator in the performance, who will guide to audience to understand the play better. Throughout the whole performance, the theme of hopelessness and desperation need to be shown. Therefore, as the narrator, I need to specifically work on my facial expression. I need to make sure I look sincere, and throughout the performance I should not smile at all. In order to show a deep and depressing tone, I need to keep my voice deep. When I go onto the stage, maybe I can walk slowly with heavy steps, which also has the effect of setting a sincere tone of the play. The central purpose of having a narrator is to explain the situation of the play well and provide information about math character’s emotion. Therefore, it is crucial to speak clearly and slowly. Since I am not actually part of the event, I need to show the difference between me and the other characters, which can be achieved by wearing identical costumes. I will wear all black, except a white shirt inside. The simple color will be easy to identify and at the same time not too much compare with others. Gestures also play a big part of the effect. When I say the line ‘This… is what the Haitian people have resorted to…’, there should be gap between the words ‘this’ and ‘is’, and when I am speaking at the gap, I need to point at Josephine. This is a really powerful gesture, therefore I need to do it sharply. Lastly, I need to develop the communication between the audience and myself since the narrator needs to talk to the audience instead of other characters. Despite skill-wise, it is also important to have a good chemistry between each character, so that the play will flow smoothly with less mistakes.

Continue from the previous chapter, Desiree eventually finds a young man who is injured from the accident, whose name is Daniel. She sees a broken car, which at that time she had no idea what it is. To comfort Daniel, Desiree sings a song and then other peasants from the village appear. They bring Daniel back to their place and look after him. At the meantime, Desiree thinks that all this is fate, it is the will of God that brought this man to their place.
